Summer Memories: Grieg, Beethoven, and Joshua Bell
For a music teacher, summer is often a time to step away from the classroom and embrace a slower rhythm. Yet, no matter how far I roam, music always finds a way to weave itself into my summer memories. One such moment was during a visit to Bergen, Norway, where I found myself at Edvard Grieg’s house. Nestled among the fjords, I could almost hear the echoes of his compositions in the natural beauty surrounding me. That evening, I attended a piano concert at Grieg’s house overlooking those same fjords, and it was as though the very landscape that inspired Grieg came alive in the music - a fusion of colors, vistas, and sounds.
Another unplanned summer music encounter was listening to majestic Beethoven's Triple Concerto at Tanglewood, performed by Joshua Bell, Steven Isserlis, and Kirill Gerstein. This would be enough to create a wonderful memory. But this day was really magical - I had a chance to meet and talk to the performers! This small talk and Joshua Bell’s signing my concert program brought an amazing feeling of me being a part of the great brotherhood of musicians.
