From Playing Music to Dancing to the Music

By: Tanya Swartzman

Recently the father of my 7-year-old student told me an interesting story. The whole family loves the Dance-Dance-Revolution (DDR) video game and spends a lot of time playing it. After five months of music lessons, the father noticed that his son dramatically improved his game and started to win family competitions regularly. Being from a family of scientists, the father started to analyze this phenomenon. He found out that the child can read dance instructions much faster, and his coordination is much better.

Because he always comes to his son's music lessons, he links these improvements to practicing sight-reading and hand-body-leg coordination.
