The clarinet is a very versatile woodwind instrument. Clarinets are part of the standard orchestral instrumentation, where two clarinetists frequently play different parts. It is also a widely used jazz instrument. There are many beautiful pieces of music written for clarinet. Some parents believe that if a child participates in a school band, he or she does not need private lessons. It is not true. School band rehearsals are often held as a big group lesson, with little to no focus on clarinet specifically, ear training, music theory, or your child individually. In addition, band clarinet repertoire usually does not exercise the whole range of the clarinet and does not allow improvisation. Private lessons will, therefore, focus on your child’s learning, improve his or her abilities for band participation and expand the range of his or her clarinet mastery and repertoire.
