“ …. It's sure to be music to parents' ears: After nine months of weekly training in piano or voice, new research shows young students' IQs rose nearly three points more than their untrained peers. …” . Our experience supports the findings of Forbes Magazine. Additionally, we strongly believe and emphasize that how you teach music is even more important for students’ brain development. Scientific research encourages starting the study of music from a young age. Young children benefit the most from music lessons as they are the most receptive and impressionable. If a child is not ready yet for private lessons he/she can still greatly benefit  from group music programs.

Keys for Kids®

Keys for Kids® is an engaging comprehensive group music program designed to help children discover the world of music through music games, ear training, solfege singing, rhythm activities, and keyboard playing. Designed as a multi-year course, classes encourage development of both the individual's and the group's musical skills. Class time activities cover many aspects of musicianship while accommodating children's attention spans. Children develop a solid musical foundation, regardless of future instrument choice. Classes are taught to small groups of parent-child teams. Groups are carefully organized according to children's age, skill level, and musical goals. Parents are expected (and for the youngest students, required) to learn along with their children and to then practice with their children. Each semester students receive a new and challenging book that includes music pieces, theory, sight-reading, ear training, and technique activities. Sharon Music Academy provides keyboards for the group lessons. However, it is beneficial to have a piano or keyboard at home to practice. For 3-4 years old students parent/caregiver participation at the lessons is required. Parents/Caregivers do not need any prior musical experience to participate.

The course consists of 15 weekly 45 min classes and has several levels. At the end of the program students will be able to play keyboard, read music notation and will have basic knowledge of music theory. Please visit our course description page for an explanation of the different age levels.

MusicCraft®

Sharon Music Academy and Kids Just Love Crafts jointly offer a new exciting program for children ages 3-5, which combines music and crafts lessons. In the course of the program children create different musical instruments and illustrations to songs and use them to learn rhythm, melodies and how to use percussion instruments. This program introduces children to an interconnection between different art forms.

Jolly Notes

This preschool music program is a fun, group class for children ages 3-4, designed to introduce children to music. Through musical games and active interaction with a teacher and each other, kids learn basic musical concepts such as: rhythm, melody, percussion instruments, and singing. “Jolly Notes” helps children develop general learning skills that they can use beyond musical studies: focus and concentration, cognitive abilities, motor skills, social skills and hand-eye coordination.  The classes are 30 minutes long and are held once a week. We maintain small group size to provide maximum attention to all students.

General Music Awareness

This course will concentrate on the recognition of different styles of music through listening. The students of this class will participate in discussion of a wide variety of music styles including Jazz, Latin, Rock, Soul, R&B, Funk, Country, Bluegrass, Folk and Classical, to name a few. Also the students will learn basic rhythm, melodic and chord knowledge through hands on experience with electronic keyboards.

By the end of the course, the children should be expected to be able to recognize the aforementioned types of music by ear through having heard the music in class and participating in discussion. Furthermore, the children should be expected to read simple melodies and rhythms by performing them on the electronic keyboard. This program is designed for children ages 3-6 and consists of 12 45 minute lessons.

Mommy & Me Creative Movement & Art

This introduces classical music, creative movement and fine art in a coordinated way for early toddlers. Parent participates to help guide child through a series of age-appropriate movements, rhymes, rhythms, and appreciation of color. Creative movement is the exploration of dance movement with the use of imagery. This offers universally positive benefits to children in Social and emotional development, Interactive skills, Gross and fine motor skills, Language use, Listening skills, Creative thought and Esthetic appreciation. Also serves as foundation for Creative Movement & Art (see class description below). This program consists of 12 25 minute lessons and is specifically designed for ages 18-36 months, if walking.

Creative Movement & Art

This multifaceted class delivers an innovative and developmentally appropriate program for children to build their creative expression and self-confidence.  This exploration combines physical movement with the inspiring works of prominent classical composers and painters.  These are used synergistically to engender an appreciation of visual arts and music.  In addition to the fundamentals of dance, each class features a group art project creatively tied to the week’s music and movement theme as well as the featured painter.  Together, this offers universally positive benefits to children in Social and emotional development (conveying emotion through how they use their bodies), Interactive skills (sense of community as child peers participate in song, dance and group work), Gross and fine motor skills (self-control fostered by practicing a wide range of movements), Language use (via rhyme, rhythm, inventing lyrics, matching melodies and percussion to words), Listening skills (active listening and making auditory distinctions), Creative thought and Esthetic appreciation. This program consists of 12 45 minute lessons and is specifically designed for ages 3-5.
