Team of Young Musicians Brings Home Trophies
To win any competition is an achievement. To win a competition, in which almost 200 music teachers from all over Massachusetts showcased their best students is a remarkable achievement. That is why we want to congratulate team of young musicians from the Sharon Music Academy, which won a lot of trophies at the 40th Annual Bay State Contest, held on May 10th at the Fitchburg State College.
Christopher Chen (age 11) won the 1st place; Catherine Song (age 10) and Angelique Scully (age 10) won the 2nd place; Kun Woo Shin (age 11), Helen Gao (age 12) received Honorable Mention. These children won their awards competing against wonderful young musicians, many of which were students of prestigious Longy School of Music and Preparatory Music School at New England Conservatory. This victory is a result of children's
hard work, dedication to music, support of their parents and high quality of music education at the Sharon Music Academy. The Sharon Music Academy has a noteworthy record of raising winners and laureates of local, national and international competitions.
What is the secret of their success? How can local children successfully compete with students of specialized Boston music schools? “There is no secret”, says Tanya Schwartzman, Music Director of the Sharon Music Academy. “It only takes love of music, dedication and hard work to succeed”.
Specially mentioned should be the youngest member of the team, 6 years old Sabrina Zhang of Sharon. Though she has not got a trophy this year, she has demonstrated all the qualities of the wonderful musician and has received high praises from the
judges. Sabrina has already started to prepare for the next year competition.
