Sharon Music Academy’s Tradition of Charity
Athletic charitable events such as walks for hunger and breast cancer research are widely known and very well publicized while artistic charitable events often do not get similar amounts of media attention. However, for many years students of the Sharon Music Academy have donated their talent, time and money to various charitable causes all over Massachusetts. Such events include charity concerts raising money for the children of Chernobyl, food drives, and performances at elderly housing, among many others. At all these events, kids, ranging in age from 6 to 17, learn how to give back to the community. This is mainly due to Sharon Music Academy’s strong emphasis on community involvement and its encouragement of children to share their enriching musical experience with others. Among all the charity concerts, performing for the elderly is probably one of the most rewarding for everyone involved. And May 4th concert of the students of the Sharon Music Academy at Orchard Cove retirement community in Canton was no exception. On that rainy day Andrew and Catherine Song of Canton, Dean Grabie and Kunwoo Shin of Sharon, Shivani Anganappan of Bedford and Angelique Scully of Franklin brought a lot of sunshine to the members of Orchard Cove Community.
Says Sandra Spring, Director of Member Services – “…our members have had such a wonderful and positive response to the performance … we are really looking forward with great anticipation to the next concert!”
